How acupuncture can support fertilty
Acupuncture can help to reduce stress levels, and have an overall positive effect on fertile health for both natural conception and during assisted reproductive treatment (ART) and IVF. Acupuncture has been shown to increase the blood flow to the ovaries which helps the maturing follicles and eggs get the optimal environment for producing healthy embryos. Research into the mechanisms of acupuncture have shown that it can regulate the hormonal balance, boost progesterone levels and improve the lining of the womb. In men it has also been shown in some research trials, to have a positive effect on sperm count, morphology and motility.
When to come for treatment
Eggs take 90 days and sperm 100 days to mature so it is best to come for acupuncture at least 3 months before trying to conceive or before starting IVF treatment. Research has shown that acupuncture works better as an adjunct to IVF if started before you start IVF and during the stimulation phase.
